LH Email handles a WordPress site’s email: writing and sending messages, queuing and logging everything the site sends, and reading IMAP inboxes. It is built for LocalHero, a WordPress Multisite platform for community organisations, and works on any WordPress site.
Features
- A compose screen in the block editor for single emails or broadcasts, where each recipient gets their own personalised copy. A message is sent when it is published.
- Broadcasts send one message per member, not per address. With LH User Identity, each member’s copy goes To their primary email and every verified alias, and any of their addresses entered more than once are merged. A per-email switch, “Send to each member’s other addresses”, turns this off.
- A queue and log for every email the site sends through wp_mail(), BuddyPress emails included, with delivery status and retry or cancel from the Emails screen. Every address a message went to is logged, so a bouncing address is easy to spot.
- Sending over SMTP through connections kept in LH Connections, each with its own From name and address.
- A read-only inbox: browse folders, list and search messages (Gmail search syntax included) and read them, without marking anything as read.
- Copying an email attachment onto the server, server-side: into the media library, privately by default, or into a temporary per-user staging area (LH MCP Sandbox) for reading without keeping it. Reading the copied file is left to a separate file-reading plugin.
- MCP abilities for all of the above, so an AI assistant can search sent mail, read an inbox and draft replies. It can only create drafts: nothing is sent until a person publishes it. Drafts written as HTML or plain text are saved as blocks, so they open ready to edit in the block editor.
- BuddyPress email templates editable in the block editor, under the same Emails menu.
Requirements
- WordPress 6.9 or later and PHP 8.2 or later.
- Composer, to install the IMAP library it uses: run composer install in the plugin’s folder.
- The LH Connections plugin, which stores the SMTP and IMAP connection details. Without it, email is sent the ordinary WordPress way and there is no inbox.
- Optionally, the LH Content Converter plugin, which turns drafts written by an AI assistant into blocks. Without it, those drafts are saved as classic content and send the same.
- Optionally, LH User Identity, which supplies members’ verified email aliases. Without it, broadcasts go to the primary email only.
