LH Save Down lets visitors download any post, page or custom post type as a plain HTML file, a plain text file, a PDF or an EPUB e-book. Download links can be added to classic menus or to navigation blocks, and each one points at a signed, expiring export of the page it appears on.
Exports show what the page shows. When the block template displaying a post marks a document region, the export renders that region; otherwise it renders the title and post content. Every export format can be customised with a template in the theme.
Key features
- Four formats: HTML, plain text, PDF (via mPDF) and EPUB (via PHPePub).
- Links in menus and navigation: Plain HTML, Plain Text, PDF and Epub links are available in classic menus and in a navigation block’s inserter. On a single post or page each link points at that page’s export; elsewhere it is left out.
- Signed, expiring links: every export URL carries a token tied to the post, the format and an expiry time (24 hours by default), so links work for anyone who has one, including visitors who aren’t logged in, and only until they expire. Posts that are not public, such as restricted governance documents, can be exported only through a valid link.
- Not indexed or cached: exports send noindex and nofollow headers and a canonical link back to the post. Exports of posts that are not public, and refused requests, are never page-cached.
- Language aware: exports declare the site language, and the PDF picks a suitable font for it automatically.
- MCP: an ability returns a signed export URL for a post and format.
Requirements
- PHP 8.1+.
- The
vendor/ directory with mPDF and PHPePub, installed with composer install in the plugin directory. - Pretty permalinks; resave them after activating.
- Optional: LH Content Converter 2.3.0+ for document-region exports.
