LH Jumpstart makes navigating a WordPress site feel instant by loading the next page before the visitor clicks. It uses the browser’s native Speculation Rules API where available, and falls back to a lightweight JavaScript prefetcher everywhere else.
How it works
- Native speculation rules: on WordPress 6.8 and later, logged-out visitors get eager prerendering, so supporting browsers render same-site pages in the background.
- Logged-in users too: WordPress normally switches speculative loading off once you log in. LH Jumpstart gives logged-in users a lighter setting instead, prefetching a page when they hover over or start to tap its link.
- JavaScript fallback: browsers without speculation rules prefetch links on hover and touch, and links scrolled into view, through a small rate-limited queue.
- Safe defaults: only same-site links are prefetched. Admin URLs, links with query strings or nonces, and links marked
rel="nofollow", tag, category or alternate are skipped, as is any link with a data-no-prefetch attribute. With BuddyPress, a member’s own profile area is never prefetched, so messages and notifications are not marked read before they are opened.
- Developer control: filters let you exclude further URLs, by exact match or by prefix, from both the native rules and the fallback, and change or turn off the logged-in setting.
