LH Buddypress Multi Network gives each site in a WordPress Multisite its own separate BuddyPress social network. Groups, friends, profile fields and activity belong to the site they were created on, and each site’s member directory lists only that site’s own users, even though everyone shares one WordPress user table.

It exists because the older plugins that set out to do this are no longer maintained and don’t work properly. It powers the LocalHero network, including lhero.org and Princes Park Touch.

Features

• Stores each site’s BuddyPress data in that site’s own database tables, and tracks the BuddyPress database version per site.
• Keeps friend counts, latest updates and last activity separate for each site.
• Limits the member directory, the member count and the sitewide activity feed to the current site’s users.
• Shows BuddyPress pages to signed-in people who are not users of the site as if they were signed out, and sends visitors to a member’s profile on their primary site.
• Makes sure every user has a last activity date and a profile name, and a daily background job keeps each site’s user records up to date.

Requirements

WordPress Multisite with BuddyPress 5.0 or later. The plugin must be network activated, and BuddyPress multiblog mode must be turned on by adding define( 'BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG', true ); to a bp-custom.php file.
